Fulfillment describes whatever process you the author choose to deliver books to your readers.  Your choices vary depending on whether you have a publisher or you are self-publishing.

Fulfillment options range all the way from directing readers to your publisher or distributor to sending orders out from your garage.  Each choice has advantages and limitations.

Traditionally published authors will typically direct readers to purchase books from a source such as:

Your publisher or distributor,

• On your Buy Now page, copy a logo from your publisher and advise the reader to click over to the publishers website to place their orders.

Amazon or Barnes and Noble,

• The affiliate programs for these online sellers give you 4-8.5% royalty on sales that initiate through your website.
• Amazon's Associate's program
• Barnes and Noble's Affiliate Network

BookSense through Independent Bookstores,

• Booksense works hard to help keep independent bookstores in business.  Through their affiliate program you earn a 5-7.5% royalty on all sales, in addition to your regular author royalties. Through Booksense, you direct your readers to buy your books online from the store nearest their home.  Readers have a choice of picking the book up at the store or having it shipped to their home.

Do it all yourself,

Use your distributor if you have one,

• Getting a distributor is one of the biggest challenges for self-publishers.  Distributors get books into bookstores.  They also  sell online.  Using your distributor may be your easiest fulfillment solution.  but it may not be the most profitable one.  Check your agreement with your distributor to learn your options. Use a fulfillment service,

• Fulfillment services exist for all types of products where a manufacturer needs a service that specializes in taking orders and shipping products.   A fulfillment service fee is often, but not always less than the fee charged by a distributor.  Some fulfillment services deal exclusively in books.  Other services represent an array of products. Send readers to Amazon or Barnes and Noble,

• A great advantage for self-publishers is that Amazon and B&N will offer your book online without you having either a publisher or a distributor.  Although this isn't the most profitable solution, it's definitely the simplest.
• Set up sales with Amazon Advantage
• Become a vendor with Barnes and Noble
• Join Amazon's Associate's program
• Join Barnes and Nobles Associates program
