Promoting Your Website - Create A Landing Page

Keywords Tip: Create a Landing Page.
Whenever your book subject is related to a current news event, consider creating a special landing page.

Let's take an example. In the wake of the Minneapolis bridge disaster, if your book was about bridge collapse, or even had a fictional scene about bridge failure, you'd want to create a website page specifically about the Minneapolis bridge disaster.  Creating this page will give you a good chance of showing up in search engines when people do a search for news about bridges.

Steps to Creating a Landing Page:

  • In your Control Panel, click on Add A Page. Create a new page and title it to describe the specific current news event (Minneapolis Bridge Disaster).
  • Write content for your page using word combinations you believe people will use when they search (bridge disaster, bridge safety, Minneapolis bridge failure). Add pictures if you have them available.
  • Next, in Standard Pages, to the right of the page, click on Edit Keywords. Add a title and description that are specific to this page. This is what will appear on the search engine listings. Add keywords and keyword phrases you believe people are using to search for news on this current event.
  • The page does not need to be listed on your menu bar.  Once people land at this page, they can use your menu bar to get to any other page on your website.

How effective can this be?  I typed "bridge failure" into Google and the third site listed is a personal website, www.ketchum.org and the page is titled Mark Ketchum's Bridge Collapse Page.  How many people are typing "bridge failure" into search engines after the Minnesota bridge disaster? Mark Ketchum got a lot of extra traffic while he was at the center of a news event.

Whenever your fiction or non-fiction book relates to a current event, consider building a special landing page and bring additional traffic to your website.
