| Webinar Outline - Using Images
A picture may be worth a thousand words, if you use it well. In this webinar we'll show how to:
- Add pictures to your website.
- Crop and resize photographs and images for your website.
- Find images for your website.
1. Add pictures to your website: Writers are told to make every word serve the purpose of the book. The same holds true for the pages, the words, and the images on your website. As you select your pictures, keep the goals of your website in mind. Does the image add to your author credibility, convey information about your book, or create a mood? Once you've found pictures, you can upload them to your website.
2. Crop and resize pictures for your website: You can easily crop and resize images for your website. In the webinar we'll show you how to resize images using www.snipshot.com. If you have another image editor you can use it to edit your images.
What size image should I use? Typical larger images on a website will be 250 or perhaps up to 300 pixels wide. Smaller images are commonly used. If you're wondering what size images to use on your own website, spend some time looking at websites and see what works well and what does not.
To see the size of an image on another website just use your mouse to right-click on the image and then select properties from the menu choice (this works if you're using a PC.) The image size will be listed.
What resolution should my image be? All website images are 72 dots per inch. Snipshot will automatically generate images at 72 dpi. If you're using another image editor, check to make sure your images are 72 dpi.
What file type should my image be? Your images should be saved either as a GIF or as a JPEG. GIF's are typically used for line drawings, cartoons, tables, and logos. JPEG's are typically used for photographs.
3. Finding Images for your website: Here are a few websites where you can search for images. There are many other image sources; some are free, others charge for each image used.
