Tools and Techniques - Blogging.

Perhaps you’re already blogging to your readers, enjoying the informal conversations you can have with likeminded people, and receiving comments on what you’re writing.

If you’re not familiar with blogs, open a search engine and type in your subject area along with the word blog. You’ll likely find many people blogging in your area.  You can study these blogs to see what’s being talked about, which styles of writing are most effective, and which blogs are generating the most comments.  If you begin adding comments to these blogs and including references back to your own website, you may generate increasing traffic for your site.

Blogs are extremely easy to set up and use. They’re also free.  Blogger (www.blogger.com) and Wordpress(www.wordpress.com) are the two most popular blog services.  Both are easy to use.  Once you’ve set up your blog, you can link it your main menu. For instructions, visit American Author’s Learning Center and view the Special Pages video or Special Pages text instructions for creating an EXTERNAL LINK.

As with other content that you create, make sure your blog contains useful information and is updated consistently.  Over time, you may generate a loyal following of readers. You may even find material for future writing projects.
