| Promoting Your Website - Testimonials.
What are readers saying about your book? The back covers of many books and the front pages of many websites are filled with testimonials. The reason is simple. Recommendations sell products.
Posting Recommendations: If you have two or three choice reviews or recommendations, consider quoting them prominently on the home page of your website. If you have more than a few accolades consider creating a complete page titled Reviews, Testimonials, News, or another appropriate name. For long reviews, you can create a separate page for the review and then link to it from the main testimonial page.
Gathering Recommendations:
1. When you receive an email from a reader. If the reader has a quote you can pull from their letter, write back and ask permission to quote them. If they loved your book, but you need a better line from them, consider suggesting a quotation and asking them to approve or edit the words. 2. When you speak at a bookstore. If the owner raves about your book, ask for a review or a quotation. 3. When you give a presentation. The after-talk discussions are sometimes the best part of a presentation. If you meet a person with unique perspectives, ask them to send you their thoughts by email, with permission to quote their words.
Some of us are better at self-promotion than others. If you’re a natural, that’s great. If you have trouble asking for quotations, remember that you’ve expended lots of energy creating a book of great value for your target reader. Remember that you’re providing a service to your reader by creating and offering your book. Reviews and testimonials are a natural part of book marketing. They will help your readers recognize the value of your book.
