The Basics - Content is King.

Two Reasons Content is king:
1. Content is what people read
2. Content is what search engines read.

In the old days of the Internet, search engines relied on the meta-tag keywords to search for relevant websites.  Because of improvements in search engines and because of abuse of metatags, most search engines now rely heavily on the page content of websites to match websites with searchers.

Write for Two Audiences: For best results, write your content for both
• the person who is coming to your site,
• and the person who is searching for your site.

Earlier we discussed the importance of writing to solve your reader’s problems.  As you write your content, you should also write to make it easy for searchers to find you. Your home page should include all the relevant keywords that someone might use to search for you, including your name, book title, book subject, and whatever else someone might use to search for you, including perhaps, your home state, home town, whether you write for children or adults,  and the names of associations that you’re part of or which your book is relevant to.

Search the web and you’ll see good examples where websites display keywords on their home page. You’ll also see examples where websites use few keywords on the home page, making it more difficult for searchers to fine these sites.

Too many websites miss out on the advantages of making their sites search-engine friendly.  If your writing pays attention to search engines, you’ll have more traffic at your website.
